Skeletron Prime is a Hardmode boss. Defeating it unlocks an array of new content, including the Solar Eclipse.

Spawn

Skeletron Prime can be summoned manually using a Mechanical Skull at night. It also has a 1/10 (10%) chance to spawn naturally at dusk once a Demon or Crimson Altar has been destroyed, as long as it has not yet been defeated at least once in the current world. If spawning this way, its arrival is announced by the status message "The air is getting colder around you...".

Skeletron Prime spawns above the player and creates a shield. Its head cannot be damaged while its arms are alive. During this phase, it alternates between hovering above and below the player. The arms will perform attacks from the following set:

Cannon Shots

  • The laser and cannon arms create telegraphs briefly before firing.
  • The cannon arm fires 3 predictive missiles.
  • The laser arm fires 1 predictive small laser.
  • The arms will not fire if they are too close to the player.

Arm Charges

  • The vice and saw arms stop moving and start telegraphing a charge.
  • They perform a predictive charge, then return to their original positions relative to the player.
  • Sometimes after the arms finish their predictive charge, they will begin performing desynced charges.
    • The arms can charge up to 5 times each before going back to their original positions again.

Slow Shrapnel Charge

  • The vice and saw arm move into a cross position.
  • The arms will begin accellerating downward till they reach their top speed.
  • They will also move slowly in the direction of the player.
  • As the arms move downward, they will release damaging sparks perpendicularly.

The first phase cycles through the following attack pattern:

  • Cannon Shots
  • Arm Charges or Slow Shrapnel Charge
