The Empress of Light is a Hardmode boss. While not required for progression, defeating the Empress of Light provides the player with money and very useful items, including the Soaring Insignia and the Terraprisma.
Spawn
The Empress of Light does not spawn on her own, and requires the player to summon her by killing a Prismatic Lacewing or by using a Radiant Crystal.
Behavior
The Empress of Light uses a unique spawn animation when the player kills a Prismatic Lacewing for the first time:
- The Lacewing remains present in an invincible state and slowly falls to the ground.
- Shortly after the Lacewing dies, harmless light bolts begin appearing above it and accelerating left or right in an asymptotic motion. The rate of these bolts appearing increases until the Empress appears.
- The Empress appears above the Lacewing and descends towards it, all present light bolts quickly return to her and dissipate on contact, and she puts her hands together and grabs the Lacewing when she reaches it, causing it to disappear. She begins her attacks shortly afterwards.
The Empress enrages during the day, which causes her attacks to deal double damage, the speed of her attacks to greatly increase, and her projectiles to turn sky-blue or pink. She is guaranteed to drop a Terraprisma separate from her treasure bag if damaged only during the day.
