King Slime is a Pre-Hardmode boss intended to be the first boss fought by the player. Fighting him is completely optional and not required for game progression, but his defeat rewards the player with money and useful items.

Spawn

King Slime can be spawned by fulfilling any of these conditions:

  • Naturally (albeit very rarely) on grass at the far left or far right of the map;
  • Naturally by defeating 150 slimes (or 75 if King Slime has already been defeated in the world) during a Slime Rain;
  • Using a Slime Crown.

King Slime attempts to attack the player by performing a series of small and large jumps.

Jump Attack

  • King Slime acts out two small hops and then one large hop.
  • It then shrinks and disappears as it teleports, becoming invulnerable.
    • If the player is moving as King Slime teleports, it will attempt to teleport in front of them. If they are standing still, then King Slime will teleport on top of them instead.

Predictive Crown Jewel

  • Every few seconds the Crown Jewel will shoot a predictive red glowing shard at the player.
    • This is indicated by a glowing red halo around the jewel.

King Slime transitions into its third phase at 30% (1,260) health. In addition to the attacks from the previous two phases, the Ninja detaches from King Slime and also attacks the player.

Shuriken-Throwing Ninja

  • The ninja attempts to close the distance between the player, occasionally jumping and throwing a spread of shuriken at them.
    • As the distance between the player is increased, the amount of shuriken thrown increases from 2 up to a spread of 6.

Predictive Crown Jewel

  • Every few seconds the Crown Jewel will shoot a predictive red glowing shard at the player.
    • This is indicated by a glowing red halo around the jewel.

Tips

  • The Crown Jewel shoots a predictive projectile toward the player based on the player's current velocity. Moving vertically throws off the prediction and makes it much easier to dodge.
