The Devourer of Gods is a post-Moon Lord boss that is intended to be fought after all of the Sentinels of the Devourer have been defeated. It is a very difficult boss fight which is necessary for game progression.

Defeating it will provide the player with Cosmilite Bars, a necessary crafting material used to craft a variety of late-game equipment. The Pumpkin Moon, Frost Moon and Solar Eclipse events will significantly increase in difficulty as well, allowing enemies to drop Nightmare Fuel, Endothermic Energy and Darksun Fragments respectively, which are also essential late-game crafting materials.

Spawn

The Devourer of Gods does not spawn on its own, and requires the player to summon it with the Cosmic Worm. It can be fought anywhere and at any time.

The Devourer of Gods alternates between the following attacks during its first phase:

Godslayer Charge

  • The Devourer of Gods chases after the player, quickly charging headfirst when near them. It will continue this behavior until the end of the attack.
    • Touching the DoG's head at any moment, not just during the charge itself will deal immense damage (the only exceptions are if it is incorporeal or doing an attack that puts it inside a portal).

Laser Net

  • The Devourer of Gods fires a large amount of lasers all at once, telegraphed by a spread of blue net lines.
    • It is incorporeal during this.

The Devourer of Gods enters its second phase at 80% (1,421,200) HP, opening a portal. After 3 bolts shoot through it, the DoG exits and charges directly towards the player. To ensure no unfair hits, this also has a very powerful knockback effect in the direction the DoG is charging.

Laser Net

  • The Devourer of Gods fires a large amount of lasers all at once. It is incorporeal during this.

Reality Tear

  • The Devourer of Gods leaves the area. Immediately after, a portal appears either vertically or horizontally to the player.
    • There is a line on the portal that indicates where the Devourer will leave from.
  • After a bit, the Devourer charges out of the portal and continues chasing the player.

Patterned Laser Beams

  • The Devourer of Gods leaves through a portal, laughing. Soon after, a large pattern of lasers fire out. There are two types of laser patterns:
  • Grid

    • The first is comparable to a grid-like pattern, either diagonally or laterally. There are square or rhombus shaped gaps in between to stay in.
  • Polygon

    • The second is comparable to regular polygons. The gaps in this pattern are generally larger than the grid pattern.
  • The DoG fires eight rounds of lasers. During any individual instance of this attack, only one type of laser pattern is fired for all eight rounds.
  • After eight rounds of lasers, the DoG charges out of a portal placed directly above the player. Unlike the regular portal charge this will track the player as shown by the perpendicular line telegraph.

The Devourer of Gods enters its third phase at 20% (355,300) HP. It alternates between the following attacks:

Chained Portal Charges

  • The Devourer of Gods leaves through a portal.
  • After some time another portal is created near the player. The DoG charges through this portal into another one.
  • The Devourer of Gods' charges are accompanied by a radial pattern of fireballs.
    • Although the Devourer is vulnerable during this attack but due to its speed is very hard to consistently hit.
  • After five Desperate Portal Charges, the DoG creates one last portal above the player before charging out of it. This attack works roughly the same as the Desperate Portal Charge but has slightly increased startup.
    • It doesn't summon fireballs during the final charge

Godslayer Charge

  • The Devourer of Gods chases after the player, quickly charging headfirst when near them. It will continue this behavior until the end of the attack.
    • Touching the DoG's head at any moment, not just during the charge itself will deal immense damage (the only exceptions are if it is incorporeal or doing an attack that puts it inside a portal).

Aftermath

Tips

  • Equipping a dash shield such as the Elysian Aegis is extremely useful for this fight as it provides the player with the ability to ram through the Devourer's head. Additionally, Infernum's 50% decrease to dash cooldowns makes them much more viable.
    • Using the dash override keybind added by the Calamity Mod can help reduce potential misinputs and make ramming significantly easier.
    • Do not try dashing away from the boss or outrunning it, as it can catch up in an instant.
  • Equipping a mount that can float in one place can be useful in avoiding its laser attacks.
  • Pay attention to the Devourer's attack patterns. As soon as it starts moving in a different direction, be prepared to change your movement pattern as well.
  • Warding accessories may not help you much during the fight, so it's highly recommended to optimize your loadout for maximum damage or critical strike chance instead.
    • Omega blue armor is a solid choice in this regard, as it provides you with more damage output than other armor sets in the same progression point.
  • Farming the Devourer of Gods after defeating it is an extremely lucrative way of getting money, as selling all of the Cosmilite Bars it drops usually gives around 270 platinum coins.
