The Wall of Flesh is the final boss of Pre-Hardmode. Defeating it permanently converts the world to Hardmode, which brings new content and challenges.

Spawn

The Wall of Flesh is summoned when a Guide Voodoo Doll is destroyed by being dropped into lava in the Underworld while the Guide is alive, killing the Guide. Directly killing the Guide with lava while in the Underworld will summon the Wall as well.

The Wall of Flesh can also be summoned by using a Flesh Chunk in the Underworld.

The direction the Wall will face, and therefore move, depends on which side of the world the player spawns it. If the Wall is spawned on the right side of the world, it will move right to left. If it is spawned on the left side of the world, it will move left to right.

The Wall of Flesh spawns with four Eyes loosely attached to itself. While any of its Eyes are connected to the wall, the Mouth takes 98% less damage, making it practically invincible. It also has several of the Hungry attached to itself, and occasionally spawns Leeches. If enraged due to the player moving too far away, it will let out a roar and summon tentacles which deal extremely high damage to the player.

The attached Eyes perform the following behavior:

Magma Beam

  • One of the Wall of Flesh's Eyes stops in place for a few moments and fires a Magma Beam at the player, telegraphed by a glowing yellow line.

Once brought to 0 health, the Eyes detach and become invincible, performing the following behavior:

Circular Blast

  • The Eye rotates around the player, firing a laser every 2 seconds, when it aligns in a cardinal direction.
    • As a telegraph, it gives off intensifying red sparks as it comes closer to firing the laser.

With all Eyes detached, the Mouth becomes vulnerable and the Wall of Flesh gains the ability to shoot Magma Beams from its mouth. It no longer spawns the Hungry, but can still spawn Leeches. If enraged due to the player moving too far away, it will let out a roar and summon tentacles which deal extremely high damage to the player. The boss performs the following attacks:

Magma Beam (Mouth's Behavior)

  • The Wall of Flesh's Mouth tracks the player's position for a few moments and fires a Magma Beam at them, telegraphed by a glowing yellow line.

Quadruple Circular Blast (Eyes' Behavior)

  • The Eyes rotate around the player, each of them firing a laser every 2 seconds, when they align in a cardinal direction.
    • As a telegraph, they gives off intensifying red sparks as they come closer to firing.

The Wall of Flesh transitions to Subphase 2 once it reaches 45% (4,716) health, gaining a new synchronized attack.

The Mouth performs the following attacks:

Magma Beam (Mouth's Behavior)

  • The Wall of Flesh's Mouth tracks the player's position for a few moments and fires a Magma Beam at them, telegraphed by a glowing yellow line.

The Eyes alternate between the following attacks:

Quadruple Circular Blast

  • The Eyes rotate around the player, each of them firing a laser every 2 seconds, when they align in a cardinal direction.
    • As a telegraph, they gives off intensifying red sparks as they come closer to firing.

Reformation Laser Attack

  • The Eyes reform into the wall and move along it erratically, firing lasers.
  • This attack is performed for 11 seconds before moving on to the next one.

Aftermath

A status message appears which reads "The ancient spirits of light and dark have been released.", indicating that the world has been permanently converted to Hardmode, which adds a vast array of new content.
