Cryogen is a Hardmode boss which possesses several phases. Defeating Cryogen provides the player with an array of useful items, including those sold by the Archmage and crafted from Cryonic Bars.

Spawn

Cryogen does not spawn on its own, and requires the player to summon it by using a Cryo Key in the Snow biome or Ice biome.

Cryogen spawns in above the player, creating an aurora in the sky. It performs attacks from the following pool:

Radial Icicle Burst

  • Cryogen hovers above the player, idling from left to right, and spawns a ring of rotating icicles around itself.
  • After a moment, the icicles are fired radially outwards.
  • This attack is repeated 3 times before the boss moves on to the next one.

Tracking Icicles

  • Cryogen summons a group of icicles in the air which track the player's movement.
  • After a moment, the icicles go still and are fired at the player.
  • This attack is repeated 6 times before the boss moves on to the next one.
    • If the player manages to bring Cryogen to its next phase before all 6 groups of icicles are summoned, Cryogen will stop the current attack and transition to the first attack in its successive phase.

Ice Bombs

  • Cryogen releases a series of Ice Bombs one after the other.
  • It then teleports to a nearby space and releases a hexagon-shaped spread of Ice Bombs from itself.
  • Each individual Ice Bomb explodes into a rain of 5 gravity-affected Ice Spikes after 3 seconds.
