Providence, the Profaned Goddess is a post-Moon Lord boss fought in The Profaned Garden. Defeating Providence unlocks an array of new content, and she drops the Rune of Kos used to summon the Sentinels of the Devourer.

Spawn

Providence does not spawn on her own, and requires the player to summon her by using a Profaned Core at the Providence Shrine in the temple area of the Profaned Garden.

Providence will enrage during the night, which causes her attacks to deal double damage and inflict Nightwither, the speed and intensity of her attacks to greatly increase, and the flames of her body and projectiles to turn bluish-white.

Behavior

When summoned, the Providence uses a unique spawn animation.

  • When the Providence Shrine is successfully activated, the Profaned Core slowly rises up as the screen shakes.
  • After a few seconds have passed, the Profaned Core triggers a brief flash of yellow-orange (daytime) or bluish-white (nighttime) fiery light as Providence materializes above the player.

Upon spawning in, Providence “Hides” from the player by covering herself with rocks. During this attack holy fireballs will fly from off screen towards the player before despawning when they touch Providence. After some seconds, providence will also begin shooting holy fireballs in a spread all around her. This attack ends when the main melody of the music starts after which providence starts using her other attacks.

Upon reaching 70% health (630000 health) a status message saying ‘lava is rising from below’ will appear, shortly after this the lower part of the arena will be flooded with lava forcing the player to fly to the top half to continue the fight. After all the lower part is flooded, Providence, will begin throwing holy fireballs in nearly all directions on a semi random pattern. Alongside this, every few seconds some projectiles will fall from above telegraphed by thin lines.

Aftermath

Notes

  • Players will get infinite flight time during the entire fight.
  • If Providence reaches Phase 2 in any biome other than the arena where it is fought in, it will immediately despawn.
  • Due to The Profaned Garden being the only location where Providence can be fought in Infernum Mode, she drops both the Elysian Wings and Elysian Aegis upon defeat.
  • If Providence despawns during Phase 2, this may be due to a bug from world corruption, see Profaned Garden Location Setter for how to fix.

Tips

  • Because the player gets infinite flight time, it is recommended to have wings that can hover and/or can move quickly as they help avoid providence bullet hell sections much more easily.
    • Specifically, the Celestial Starboard dropped by moonlord proves quite useful.

Trivia

  • The theme heard during Infernum Providence's first phase is Unholy Ambush, which normally plays during the fight against the Profaned Guardians.
  • When Providence reaches phase two, the soundtrack switches to Unholy Insurgency, which is the normal theme of Providence throughout the fight when Infernum Mode is not enabled.
  • If the player manages to defeat Infernum Providence at night before defeating her during the day, the tooltip for the Infernal Relic will instead read "Bruh? What the heck? Are you OK? You were supposed to fight her at night AFTER beating her during the day first!"
