Plantera is a Hardmode boss fought in the Underground Jungle. Defeating her triggers many changes to the world which help the player progress, such as the introduction of new Dungeon enemies and the generation of Perennial Ore.

Spawn

Plantera does not spawn on her own, and requires the player to summon her by breaking a Plantera's Bulb in the Underground Jungle or a Giant Plantera Bulb found in the Vernal Pass mini-biome.

Plantera can also be summoned by using a Portabulb anywhere in the Jungle.

Upon spawning in, Plantera immediately begins attacking the player.

Unripe Barrage

  • Plantera moves towards the player till she is within 85 tiles before slowing down
  • Plantera then fires seeds at them at a rate of about 2 per second.
  • Every four to five seconds, Plantera will spawn Exploding Flowers.
    • These flowers will explode around 2 seconds later, sending a spread of 3 petals centered on the player.

Plantera transitions into its second phase at 80% (88,400) health, losing its petals and exposing its toothy maw. It gains several new attacks which it cycles through:

Poisonous Gas Release

  • Plantera turns towards the player and releases a radial burst of 19 lingering Spore Gas clouds every 1.5 seconds.
  • It transitions to the next attack after firing two bursts of Spore Gas.

Tentacle Snap

  • Plantera pauses for a second, then grows a ring of tentacles radially around itself.
    • The ring has a visible gap in it which the player must move into quickly.
  • After a moment, the tentacles begin quivering and retract before being fired out in all directions.
    • The ring will attempt to create a gap in a direction facing an open area so as to prevent potentially unfair situations.
  • This attack is repeated twice.

Nettle Charge

  • Plantera releases a burst of 4 nettle vines from itself, splitting the area into distinct sections.
  • Plantera then performs an accelerated charge at the player, spitting out a spread of 5 petals.
    • It charges 5 times before the nettle vines retract and Plantera moves on to the next attack.

Red Blossoms

Poisonous Gas Release

  • Plantera turns towards the player and releases a radial burst of 19 lingering Spore Gas clouds every 1.5 seconds.
  • It transitions to the next attack after firing two bursts of Spore Gas.

Tentacle Snap

  • Plantera pauses for less than a second, then grows 2 rings of tentacles radially around itself. The outer ring of tentacles is pale green, while the inner ring is pink.
    • Each ring has a visible gap in it which the player must move into quickly.
  • After a moment, each ring of tentacles begins quivering and retracts before being fired out in all directions.
    • The inner ring fires 0.5 seconds after the outer ring.
    • The rings will attempt to create a gap in a direction facing an open area so as to prevent potentially unfair situations.
  • This attack is repeated twice.

Nettle Charge

  • Plantera releases a burst of 6 nettle vines from itself, splitting the area into distinct sections.
  • Plantera then performs an accelerated charge at the player, spitting out a spread of 5 petals.
    • It charges 5 times before the nettle vines retract and Plantera moves on to the next attack.
