Abyss
The Abyss is a massive aquatic biome added by the Infernum Mod. It is an overhaul of the Calamity biome of the same name, made to be significantly wider and more complex, along with the addition of various minor sub-zones, a massive food chain system featuring AI overhauls of several Abyss enemies, different acquisition methods of Abyss-related treasures, new aquatic creatures, and much more.
Layers
Abyssal Plain and Kelp Forest (Layer One)
The roof of the Abyss is a flat expanse. Around this region, the water becomes noticeably darker as the music changes. There are additionally several kelp plants present at the top.
Inside the first layer of the Abyss is a series of caves with several pockets of Planty Mush as well as a vast array of flora and fauna. Several drops can be obtained from the animals here post-Skeletron, such as being able to catch Herring with a Bug Net to get the Herring Staff.
The Trenches (Layer Two)
The Trenches are thin spaghetti-like caves which go straight down, slightly hollowing out near the end. They are slightly more dangerous than the above layer and have a lower light level as well.
Hydrothermal Vents and Lumenyl Caves (Layer Three)
The trenches from the second layer lead downwards into a dark and dangerous region dotted with boiling hydrothermal vents from which Scoria Ore and Pyre Mantle can be mined. Several dangerous enemies such as Gulper Eels and Devil Fish spawn in this region. Near the top left corner of the layer is a large den for a sleeping Colossal Squid as well as several Giant Squid.
The lower half of the third layer is filled with Lumenyl crystals which grow from the walls and ceiling. At the bottom is a platform for four seemingly-inert Eidolists which will attack the player when instigated.
Blackout Zone (Layer Four)
The area beneath the third layer is a pitch-black and highly dangerous expanse where several aggressive enemies such as Reaper Sharks and Eidolon Wyrms spawn. At the seafloor of the Abyss, predatory Bobbit Worms lie in wait to ambush prey.
The Terminus lies embedded in the ocean floor, protected by the Primordial Wyrm which will attack anyone who disturbs it.

- The above (and most of the below) items can also be caught from Sulphurous Crates as usual.
In addition to crafting recipes for existing items, other items have unique acquisition methods as well.
- The Lionfish is a drop from the Lionfish enemy.
- The Herring Staff can be acquired by catching a Herring with a Bug Net.
- The Strange Orb can be found as a pearl in the Abyss, surrounded by timid Ocean Spirits.
- The Iron Boots can be mined off a drowned skeleton found in the upper layers of the Abyss.
- The Terminus drops from the Primordial Wyrm. It can be found at the bottom of the fourth layer, and mining it triggers the non-enraged fight with the boss.
Notes
- There is a known bug with the Terminus going missing, read here on how to fix it.
